Alumni Report: Tis' Was The Weekend Before Conference

NEW ORLEANS - Illinois State's Ariel Michalek has been named National Athlete of the week announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday.

Michalek had an outstanding performance at the Illini Open Friday evening, as she won the women's 5K with a season-best time of 18:01. She paced the Redbirds to second-place finish.

National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to six collegiate cross country athletes (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions).

Both men and women are back in action this weekend, as they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete in the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. The women's 5K race is set to begin at 10 a.m., while the men's 8K race will begin at 11:30 a.m
