TRIVIA ANSWER: In What Year Was the Javelin Throw Last a State Championship Event?

In this week's trivia poll question, we asked in what in what year the javelin was last an event in the Iowa State High School Track & Field Championships...Check out the poll here!

The answers to the question were overwhelmingly for the year 1956, but 1941 was actually the last year that the Javelin throw was an event in the state of Iowa! The event was offered from the years 1926-1941. Bruce Erickson of Traer High school holds the state record for the Javelin throw with a 195-08.25, which he achieved at the 1939 Iowa State T&F Championship. Many other states, including our neighbor to the south Missouri, also removed the Javelin throw as an event throughout the 1900's, but many have brought it back in the past couple of years. Currently 22 states offer the Javelin as a high school event, while it is a very popular field event for collegiate and professional track & field.
