Meet Preview: Urbandale Invitational

The Urbandale High School Invitational is set to be a great coed meet to continue a busy month of racing. Check out who is slated to win the team titles and what individuals could have season-best performances.


Urbandale Invitational Preview - Boys

On the boys' side, the Waukee Warriors are the favorite to take home the team title. Other teams that will be competing for the team title are Johnston High School, Urbandale High School, Indianola High School and Dowling Catholic High School. Waukee is ranked 2nd in the Heartland Soles teams ranking, while Dowling Catholic is 5th, Johnston High School is 12th, Urbandale High School is 16th and Indianola High School is 19th.

Shot Put

Jacob Wiggins of Waukee High School and Zach Stacy of Dowling Catholic High School will battle it out for the individual title in the Shot Put. Jacob Wiggins' throw of 53-11.25 is the 7th best throw in the State of Iowa. Zach Stacy of Dowling Catholic has a throw of 53-1.5. He is ranked 10th in the State of Iowa at the moment. Isaac Erbes of Urbandale High School and Eric Sorenson of Waukee will also be competing in the event.

1,600 Meter Run

Matt Fraizer of Dowling Catholic High School and Jackson Lewis of Waukee are the favorites to fight for the win in the 1600-meter run. Matt Fraizer has the top time in the state with a time of 4:28.10 while Jackson Lewis is right behind with a time of 4:28.90. Patrick Bose of Johnston High School is another runner who will be in the mix. Bose has a personal best time of 4:23.61 in the 1600. The 2016 state cross country champion has not yet competing in the event this season, so this debut should be a great preview of what is to come for the senior. Josh Andrews of Waukee and Joe Schaefer of Johnston High School will also be in that front pack competing for top spots.


Urbandale High School Meet Preview - Girls

Dowling Catholic High School is the favorite to win the girls' team title, and are currently ranked 10th in Heartland Soles team rankings. Indianola High School is ranked 13th and will also be a competitor for the team title. Urbandale High School and Des Moines Roosevelt will also be the in the running.

100 Meter Hurdles

Esther Ubadigo of Des Moines Roosevelt and Samiya Abuyoum are ranked 12th and 13th in the event for the state of Iowa and should be at the front of the race. Esther Ubadigo has a season best of 15.86 and Samiya Abuyoum has a season best of 15.88. Juru Okwaramoi, also of of Des Moines Roosevelt High School and Bailey Mottet of Urbandale High School will also be a strong competitors in the race.

High Jump

Piper Watson is the favorite to win the High Jump, after a season best of 5-2, which is the 12th best jump in the state of Iowa. Dowling Catholic will have a duo of Emma Gaber and Liz Freeman that will be fighting for those top spots as well after both jumping 5-0 so far this year, which is tied for 23rd in the State of Iowa. Halley Brocker of Des Moines Roosevelt High School is another athlete that will be competing for the individual title.
