AD Dickinson Relays Highlights Female Athletes in Varying Events

(PC: @DickinsonRelays)

The AD Dickinson Relays presented a nice range of events for female athletes, not favoring any one type of athlete, but highlighting each event field with premier events.

The events competed in at the meet include:

In the individual sprinting events, the Sydney's took the spotlight with Sydney Winger of Waukee winning the 60 Meter Hurdles (8.88) and Sydney Milani of SEP winning the 200 Meter Dash (25.21). Milani won the event by over 1.5 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Carly Kind was the victor in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 7.64.

In the 400 Meter Dash, the race for first was tight between Madison Jochum (Bishop Heelan Catholic) and Kirstin Skriver(Prairie), finishing in 1:00.78 and 1:00.81, respectively.

Logan Akason blazed the track in the 800 with a 2:22.68, winning the event by 1.5 seconds over Grace Juhl. Akason returns as the 7th fastest athlete in the 800 in the state of Iowa with her 2017 PR of 2:15.69. She is most certainly on her way to another excellent outdoor season.

Bailey Nock once again did not disappoint with a double win- the 1500 and the 3000. She won the 1500 in a time of 4:49.17, the only athlete to dip under the 4:50 mark, and improving her indoor PR by 2 seconds.
In the 3000, Nock won over Johnston's
Jessica McKee. The two athletes separated themselves from the rest of the field by a hefty gap of nearly 30 seconds, with Nock taking the win in 10:26.78 and McKee following in 10:32.04.

The field events were Iowa City West heavy, with Trojan athletes winning both the Shotput and Long Jump. Kitra Bell won the Long Jump with an impressive distance of 17-11, over a foot farther than the next finisher. In similar fashion, Chandler Haight won the Shotput with a throw of 42-08 ahead of Jamie Kofron's 39-11.

The High Jump spotlighted many smaller school athletes with the top 3 coming from schools outside of 4A.

Waukee impressed in the relays, winning the 4x200 (1:47.61) and 4x800 (9:40.61), proving that they are out to continue their streak of wins at the Iowa State High School T&F Championships. The 4x400 was won by Southeast Polk in a time of 4:09.31.

Many athletes are working on qualifiers for the IATC Indoor T&F Championships which will be held at the University of Dubuque later this month.
