Braunsdorf, McDermott Named To All-Academic Track Team

NEW ORLEANS, LA. -- Drake senior Nicole Braunsdorf (St. Francis, Wis.) and junior Casey McDermott (Newton, Iowa) have been named to the 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team.

Braunsdorf, who set a school indoor record in the mile (4:48.91), achieved an NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the 5,000-meter run with a personal best of 16:42.90 at the Mt. SAC Relays.

McDermott earned a ticket to the NCAA Regional after setting a school record in the 3,000 steeplechase of 10:44.48 en route to a seventh-place finish at the Drake Relays.

McDermott was third in the 1,500 at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championship May 18 in Terre Haute, Ind., while placing eighth in the 3,000 steeplechase. Braunsdorf was fourth in the 5,000 at the MVC meet.

McDermott opened the outdoor season by winning the 3,000 steeplechase at the Missouri Relays, while Braunsdorf was second in the 5,000.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic, a student athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I indoor qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
