XC on IOWATFXC.COM, 2013

IOWATFXC.COM (aka IA.MILESPLIT.COM)  is a free website serving Iowa HS T&F/XC administrators, coaches, athletes, and fans; an exclusive source of team and athlete information & statistics, meet information & results, and much more.  This article is to inform you how to best benefit from  IOWATFXC.COM this fall during the 2013 cross country season.

What IOWATFXC.COM does NOT do - duplicate what IHSAA/IGHSAA and IATC does for you (e.g., have coaches meetings, put on meets/clinics/camps, make and enforce rules).  Information provided by those organizations has been and will continue to be very helpful to our operation; and our information is helpful to theirs as well.

REGISTRATION FOR AN ACCOUNT WITH IOWATFXC.COM -  You can access most benefits of IOWATFXC.COM (e.g., your team page, your athletes’ pages, calendar of meets, results from meets, photos from meets, athlete/team statistics & rankings, articles, discussions, resources) without obtaining an account.  But with a FREE and secure account, you can also directly edit your team and athlete pages, add/edit your meet information, post meet results directly, submit photos, comment on articles, start/participate in discussions, and more.  For how to Register for an IOWATRXC.COM account, go to -   www.iowatfxc.com > Site Guide > How To Guides for IOWATFXC.COM > Registering for an IOWATFXC.COM account OR click on https://ia.milesplit.com/pages/Registering_For_An_IOWATFXC.COM_.

ACCESS AND EDIT YOUR TEAM AND ATHLETES PAGES -  Go to www.iowatfxc.com and click on Teams > (your school name).  Some information for your team has been entered manually, other information (e.g., athletes & their pages) automatically when you participate in meets from which we receive and can process results.  You can add or revise information to your team page either -  indirectly be emailing the additions/revisions to lknudson@milesplit.com or directly.  For instructions on how-to add/revise your team/athletes’ information directly, from the IOWATFXC.COM home page go to -  Site Guide > How-To Guides for IOWATFXC.COM > Editing Team & Athlete Information OR https://ia.milesplit.com/admin/pages/798.

XC MEET SCHEDULE, 2013 AND INFORMATION -  A preliminary schedule of 2013 Cross Country meets, and corresponding basic information for those meets, has been entered into IOWATFXC.COM.  To access, go to Calendar > Cross Country, 2013.  Please review the schedule and specific meet information, particularly if you are hosting or will be attending the meet(s), and submit additions, revisions, and deletions to lknudson@milesplit.com.  For further instructions on what information to submit, go to -   Site Guide > How-To Guides for IOWATFXC.COM > Editing Meet Information OR https://ia.milesplit.com/pages/Editing_Meet_Information .

SEND MEET RESULTS -   Please send the complete results of the meets which you host (and attend) ASAP after the meet to lknudson@milesplit.com .  The format in which we receive results is important in how they appear in IOWATFXC.COM, and whether MileSplit software can compile and automatically convert them to your athlete-team-conference-division-state statistics and rankings.  Formats:

- Hytek HTML version, RaceTab -  will publish in great original format, will easily compile for statistics & rankings purposes.

- HyTek PDF version, Raceberry Jam, spreadsheet (e.g., Excel, Aspi Meetz), Athletic.net -  can publish, but usually in altered format, and difficult/impossible to compile for statistics and rankings.

-  Scanned in PDF’s from paper results, regardless of format; are “photos” which don’t translate; can’t publish or compile.

See the Gilbert Invitational, 8/23/12 results at https://ia.milesplit.com/meets/119386-gilbert-invitational as examples of different formats.

RESULTS/STATISTICS/RANKINGS –  Once meet results are received, they are “compiled” (i.e., placed as individual meet-division-event-athlete-team-time data lines in our huge MILESPLIT.COM database) and made available for automatically generated athlete/team/conference/division/state/national statistics and rankings.

-  Team Statistics -  For examples of your team’s “statistics”, go to Teams > (your team).  Click on Season Bests and/or Records for information from all meet results received in compilable format.

-  Athlete statistics -  Under your team, select any athlete on the Roster, and see the results in every event from every meet (from results received in compilable format) in which that athlete participated, plus computed Personal Bests.

-  For examples of individual “rankings” -  go to Stats > XC Individuals > Gender (m/f) > Season (CC) > Level (HS) > Year (’12) > Locale (IA), Grade (All), and Event.  Included will be the “rankings” of every Iowa athlete competing in that event during the 2012 XC season; in every meet from which results were received in compilable format.

- For examples of team “rankings” -  go to Stats > Gender (b/g) > Year (’12).  To eliminate 2013 graduates (i.e., predict 2013 XC results from 2012 results) -  Show Advanced Parameters > Returning(2013) > Refine.

Thanks for your past contributions, and in advance for future contributions, to our efforts to provide you administrators, coaches, athletes, families, and fans with the finest coverage of Iowa HS track & field and cross country.  Let us know if/how we can serve you even better.
