Athlete Spotlight: Alec Still signs with the Iowa Hawkeyes

Alec Still of Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central signed to compete as an Iowa Hawkeye in track & field. Read below to learn more about his start in track and why he chose the Hawkeyes!

What inspired you to begin running track?
I started running in AAU and USATF meets when I was I was in 4th or 5th grade. My parents were the ones that really inspired and supported me, because they were the ones that always took me meets.

What is your favorite event and why?
My favorite event is the 800, because it's my best race. I usually don't get in the mileage for the 1600 and I don't quite have the sprinting speed to run a great 400. So the 800 is the perfect fit for me, because I have a little bit of speed and endurance.

What accomplishments in track are you most proud of?
Throughout high school one of the things I'm most proud of was breaking the 2 minute barrier when I was a freshmen. Getting 2nd and 3rd as a team my sophomore and junior years is also something I'm pretty proud of.

You are also a skilled running back in football... will you continue playing after high school, or will you be focusing solely on Track & Field?
Sadly my football career is over, so I will just be focusing on track in college.

What would you say has most helped you achieve success in running?
Training in the off season and staying healthy during the season has led me to be successful throughout high school.

You recently committed to run for the University of Iowa in college. What led you to the decision to become a Hawkeye?
I've been a Hawkeye fan my entire life. It has been my goal/dream to run for Iowa ever since I was in middle school. So when I was offered a spot on the team, I knew right away that's where I would be spending the next four years.
