Distance Night In Palatine Lived Up To Its Billing

We didn't know what to expect beyond a great time at the Distance Night in Palatine. We all knew the temperatures were going to be friendly for distance runners and the crowd atmosphere would do its part.

But what took place on the track went beyond what we imagined and was truly amazing.

There were three state #1's on the boys side (3200, 1600, DMR) and one for the girls (800). However, it was the undercard that set the tone for the evening.

It featured freshman boy 1600m races in which hopeful future star Ethan Kern of York won in a time good for any class (4:28.67).

The Distance Medley Relays (DMR) were an added delight the distance festival, too. Shepard High School swept both gender races in come from behind style: girls 12:47.95 and boys 10:30.30
