The Midwest has a proud history and tradition of performing well in the national championship whether it's been in Orlando, FL or the mainstay home Balboa Park in San Diego, CA. Illinois boys have also represented themselves well being crowned champions four times- the third most behind California and Michigan.
Danny Kilrea is ready to conclude a great post-season in which he collected 2,1,4,5 places. He earned a regional crown running one of the fastest times on the UW Parkside layout without it being a goal.
The stage is now set for something grand
On Saturday, Kilrea will be one favorite among the 40 boys who will toe the line at historic Balboa Park. The question is how will he attack the rough but runner friendly terrain? Patience may be Kilrea's best friend early on as he navigates the field and the course. But we all know when he goes he is going to go he is going to go. By mid-Saturday afternoon we all should know whether or not Danny Kilrea will be Illinois first champion since 2010 and 5th overall winner.
