Kreft & Johnson To Take Friendly Rivalry From XC Courses To The Track At The SPIRE Showcase

           Zach Kreft & Chad Johnson are headed to Geneva for the 2018 MileSplit / SPIRE Showcase.


Two of Ohio's best distance runners have confirmed that they'll be attending the 2018 MileSplit / SPIRE Scholastic Showcase which is scheduled for February 11th at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva.  Buckeye Valley's Zach Kreft and Colonel Crawford's Chad Johnson will compete head to head in the 3200m race at what is considered one of the premier meets on the Ohio indoor track and field calendar.  

Both athletes are coming off of exceptional cross country seasons; Kreft was the #1 ranked 5K runner in the country from his 14:29.95 effort at the Midwest Meet of Champions and Johnson was the 11th place finisher (and first Ohioan) at Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego.  Kreft and Johnson both won their respective State Championship races last month at the National Trail Raceway in Hebron (Kreft - DII & Johnson - DIII).  

On the track, they both have a long list of impressive achievements.  Chad Johnson was the 2017 DII / DIII indoor state champion in the 1600m and the 2017 DIII outdoor state champion in the 3200m while Zach Kreft took 3rd place at the 2017 DI indoor state championship in the 3200m and 4th place at the 2017 DI outdoor state championship in the 1600m.

           Chad Johnson will compete for Iowa State University in Ames next year. 


           Zach Kreft will compete for the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana next year.
