(Sydney Milani on the left with relay team)
Just days away from the Drake Relays, Southeast Polk's Sydney Milani set a new 400-meter record for the state of Iowa! The Rams senior has committed to Iowa State University next year to continue her running career, but certainly hasn't rested on her laurels this season. Between playing Varsity soccer and competing in Track & Field, Milani has her eyes set on the prize.
On the track at Grinnell, Milani threw down a time of 53.70 to take down the previous state record, 53.96 set by Hannah Wilms in 2010. Wilms also went on to compete for the Cyclones and was an All-American in the high jump during her career. I think it's safe to say that Milani will add to their incredible roster and will do great things through the rest of this season and for her athletic career beyond high school! Milani will not have an opportunity to run the 400 at the Drake Relays as it is not currently a featured high school event. She will, however, be competing in the 800-meter run on Friday.
