State Track Meet Kicks into High Gear Friday

DES MOINES - The action was fast and furious on Day 2 of the State Track Meet Thursday here at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. After withstanding rain early in the day, fans and athletes alike bathed on the sun and strong performances. 

Some winners from Day 2: 

-Darci Wiseman became the first Winterset girl to bring home an individual state title since 1980. by winning the 3A 400 hurdles in 1:03.91.

-Dubuque Wahlert Catholic continued its dominance in the 4x200, repeating as champs in 3A for the 3rd straight year. The team of Ariana Yaklich, Abigail Wallace, Meghan McDonald and Rylee Steffen finished in 1:43.91.

-Paton-Churdan's Danielle Hoyle won the 1A discus with a winning throw of 130-11.

-Pleasant Valley's Emily Wood continued the Spartans' success in the 400 hurdles. She became the 4th different PV runner to win the 400h in the last 8 meets.

-Waukee's Matt Kaputska was the 4A champ in the shot put. The senior throws 60-6.25 won his program's first boys' shot put title.

-Woodbine's Layne Pryor became a two-time 1A state champ in the discus. Pryor threw 182-9 for the best toss of the weekend after going 2nd in the shot put and qualifying in the 100 and 200.

-Kole Becker (Lisbon) won the 1A hurdles in 54.90 and Drew Bartels (Cedar Rapids Kennedy) captured 4A in 52.49. Becker and Bartels also won the long jump in their respective classes. 

-Bellevue won the 2A Distance Medley replay in 3:36 and Humboldt took 3A in 3:30.11.
