WHAT'S AHEAD: The Drake men's track and field teams will resume the indoor campaign, competing at the Iowa State Open Friday and Saturday (Jan. 22-23) at Ames, Iowa. Competition starts at 3 p.m. Friday with the women's 5,000-meter run, while a full day of events on Saturday begins at 9:50 a.m.

LAST YEAR: The Drake men's distance medley relay team finished fifth at the 2009 Iowa State Open, being clocked in 10:11.12. Seniors Jeff Grassmyer (Fremont, Neb.) and Kevin Earl (Overland Park, Kan.) return from that relay.

MEN'S RECAP:  Senior Anthony Pettaway (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was fourth in the 300-meter dash (35.15) and fifth in the long jump to key the Drake men's track and field team in its season opening indoor meet at the Iowa State Holiday Classic Dec. 13.

Pettaway leaped 21 feet 11.50 inches in the long jump and came back to anchor Drake to a third-place finish in the 4x300-meter relay in 2:23.25. Sophomore Shaun James (Lawrence,Kan.), freshman Dan Karys (Bartlett, Ill.) and sophomore Jon DeGrave (Lake Villa, Ill.) also ran legs on the 4x300 relay. Sophomore Charlie Lapham (Golden Valley, Minn.) was fourth in the mile (4:25.13). Sophomore Eric Hall (Des Moines, Iowa) was sixth in the 60 hurdles (8.87).
