AMES, IOWA --  The Drake women's distance medley relay team finished third to highlight action for the Drake women's track teams at the Iowa State Open Friday.

The Bulldogs, who were seeking their third straight title in the event, were clocked in 12 minutes 19.56 seconds. The relay was comprised of  junior Katie Coomer (Overland Park, Kan.), senior Caitlin Able (Aurora, Colo.), junior Kara McCartney (Elgin, Iowa) and junior Casey McDermott (Newton, Iowa).

Junior Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) was third in the women's long jump, soaring 17 feet 4.25 inches.

Junior Johanna Sprang (New Brighton, Minn.) was fourth in the women's pole vault at 10-11.75, while junior Molly Scott (Kansas City, Mo.) was sixth at 10-6.

Drake senior Tara Scieszinski (Albia, Iowa) was fifth in the 5,000 in 18:24.29 followed by junior teammate Meredith Bell (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) who was sixth in 18:27.24.
