DES MOINES, IOWA---Drake junior
Ari Curtis set a school record for the second straight week en route to winning the women's 400 hurdles at the Jim Duncan Invitational Saturday at Drake Stadium.
Curtis was timed in 59.27 seconds, breaking the school record of 1:00.0 that she set when running the event for the first time in the Tom Botts Invitational at Columbia, Mo., April 3. Curtis also set a personal best in the women's javelin at 110 feet 3 inches en route to an eighth-place finish.
Junior Beth Hamling (Council Bluffs, Iowa) won the 400-meter dash in a personal best of 55.96, while finishing third in the 200 in 25.10. Curtis and Hamling also ran the second and third legs on Drake winning 4x100 relay which was clocked in 47.62.
Hamling and Curtis ran the first and fourth legs on the Bulldogs' 4x400 relay which was second in a season best 3:50.38. Senior Caitlin Able (Aurora, Colo.), who ran the second leg on the 4x400 relay, was third in the 400 in 58.39.
Junior Kara McCartney (Elgin, Iowa) was second in the 800 in 2:14.70, while junior Casey McDermott was fourth in 2:15.02. Earlier. McDermott was fourth in the 1,500 in 4:38.19, while senior Nicole Braunsdorf was fifth in 4:39.70.
Junior Cambria Pardner (Aurora, Colo.) was third in the triple jump at 38 feet 3.5 inches, while placing fifth in the 100 in 12.34. Drake junior Johanna Sprang (New Brighton, Minn.) was fourth in the women's pole vault at 11-5.75, while junior Molly Scott (Kansas City, Mo.) was fifth at 11-5.75.
Drake juniors Tyse Samani (Kansas City, Mo.) and Michelle Mitchell (Brookfield, Wis.) tied for fifth in the high jump at 5-1. Drake freshman Briana Isom-Brummer (St. Louis, Mo.) was seventh at 5-1. Isom-Brummer was sixth in the long jump at 16-11. Freshman Marissa Smith (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) was sixth in the 100 hurdles in 14.66, with freshman Sarah Yeager (Ottumwa, Iowa) seventh in 14.69. Pardner and Yeager also ran legs on Drake's winning 4x100 relays. Yeager also was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.46.
