Curtis Sets School Mark In Heptathlon; Finishes Third At Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE KAN. -- Drake junior Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) set her second school record in less than a week when she finished third in the heptathlon at the Kansas Relays Thursday.

Curtis accumulated 4,998 points in the grueling two-day event, bettering the previous Drake school mark of 4,923 points by Laura Borland in 2000.

Just last Saturday at the Jim Duncan Invitational, Curtis lowered her previous school mark in the 400 hurdles to 59.27 seconds.

Curtis closed out the heptathlon by running a personal best in the 800 with a winning time of two minutes 15.24 seconds.

She was second in the 200 in 25.01, while finishing third in the javelin at 108-4. Curtis was fifth in both the high jump (5-3.25) and long jump (17-3.25).

Nebraska junior Megan Wheatley won the heptathlon with 5,323 points followed by Anna Kay Campbell from Lincoln (Mo.) who had 5,245 points.
