CHICAGO,
ILL. -- Led by sophomore transfer Omet Kak (Des Moines, Iowa), the Drake men's
cross country team placed eighth out of 41 teams in the Loyola Lakefront
Invitational Saturday morning.
Kak finished
14th in a field that had 528 runners. He covered the 8,000-meter course in 25
minutes 27 seconds.
Drake junior
Ben Jaskowiak (Madison, Wis.) was 26th in 25:50 followed by sophomore transfer
Tim Cornish (Wellington, New Zealand) who was 31st in 25:54.
Junior Colin Hagan (Wichita, Kan.) was 69th in 26:12, while freshman Doug Brady (Englewood,
Colo.) was 74th in 26:13.
Drake
freshman Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa), a two-time Iowa state prep champ, was
spiked twice in the opening mile and withdrew from the race.
"It
wasn't the team placing we were hoping for, but we had some outstanding
efforts," said Drake cross country coach Dan Hostager. "The
conditions were terrible with extreme wind and rain."
