PEORIA, ILL. -- The Drake men's cross country team closed out its season with a 17th-place finish in the NCAA Midwest Regional meet Saturday. Hosted by Bradley University, the meet was held at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill.
Freshman
Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) led the Bulldog contingent by finishing 58th in the 10,000-meter race in 31 minutes 28.29 seconds.
One hundred and seventy-one runners completed the race with Oklahoma State's Colby Lowe winning the individual title in 29:30.70.
Freshman
Omet Kak (Des Moines, Iowa), who was Drake's top runner the entire fall, dropped out of the race at the 6,000-meter mark.
Oklahoma edged defending NCAA national champion Oklahoma State, 43-50, to win the team title.
"I was disappointed with our team finish. but we had several solid individual efforts," said Drake cross country coach
Dan Hostager. "It was the first 10,000 meter race for four of our runners (Austin, Kak,
Ryan Flynn,
Doug Brady).
Drake sophomore
Colin Hagan (Wichita, Kan.) was 102nd with a time of 32:30.89 followed by freshman
Ryan Flynn (Bettendorf, Iowa) who finished 108th in 32:37.20.
Senior
Mike Bumgarner (Rosemount, Minn.), running his last cross country race for Drake, finished in 113th place in 32:46.65. Junior
Ben Jaskowiak (Madison, Wis.) ran a time of 32:53.34 which was good for 120th. Freshman
Doug Brady (Englewood, Colo.) finished in 121st in 32:53.68.
