AMES, IOWA - Sophomore Dan Karys (Bartlett, Ill.) won the
long jump and the triple jump to open up the Drake men's track and field team's
season at the Iowa State Holiday Preview Friday night (Dec. 10).
Karys jumped 22 feet 4.25 inches to claim the long jump title and
soared 46 feet 4.75 inches to win the triple jump.
Junior Matt Jurysta (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada) finished third (8:58.52) in the 3000-meter race, while freshman Jaffar Mahmoud (Naperville, Ill.) came in seventh with a time of 9:13.03. Sophomore Steve Bruxvoort (Mitchellville, Iowa) finished 11th with a time of 9:24.01.
Drake had three of the top four performers in the 300-meter
dash as junior Jon DeGrave (Lake Villa, Ill.,) freshman Brett Wright (Longmont, Colo.) and freshman Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa) finished
second, third and fourth respectively. DeGrave, Wright and Marsh ran times of 34.79, 35.04 and 35.47, respectively.
Senior Brandon Lewis (Plymouth,
Minn.) finished fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:24.84.
The 4x300 meter relay with DeGrave, Karys, Wright and junior Shaun James (Lawrence, Kan.) placed third in 2:19.35.
Drake travels to Vermillion, S.D. on Jan. 15 to partake in the Alumni
Meet hosted by the University of South Dakota. The event will be held at the
DakotaDome.
