AMES, IOWA - The Drake women's track and field team opened its indoor season with a strong showing at the Iowa State Holiday Preview Friday night (Dec. 10).
Senior
Johanna Sprang (New Brighton, Minn.) claimed the pole vault crown with a vault of 11 feet 1.75 inches.

Clarissa LaFlora (Kewanee, Ill.) finished second in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:27.69 and senior
Tyse Samani (Kansas City, Mo.) was third in the high jump (5-4.25).
Senior
Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) placed fourth in the long jump (17-04), fifth in the high jump (5-02.25) while also finishing seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.21.
Senior
Cambria Pardner (Aurora, Colo.) leapt 37 feet 0.25 inch to come in fourth in the triple jump.
Sophomores
Marissa Smith (Ajax, Ontario) and
Sarah Yeager (Ottumwa, Iowa) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles. Smith had a time of 8.88, while Yeager clocked a 9.07.
Senior
Beth Hamling (Council Bluffs, Iowa) placed second in the 300 meter dash with a time of 40.66. Yeager finished sixth with a time of 41.79. In the mile run, senior
Katie Coomer (Overland Park, Kan.) was second in 5:05.98.
The Drake 4x300 meter relay team finished second with a time of 2:42.75. Hamling, Pardner, Yeager and Curtis all ran on the team.
The Bulldogs will travel to Vermillion, S.D. on Jan. 15 to participate in the Alumni Meet hosted by the University of South Dakota. The event will be held at the DakotaDome.
