Karys Takes Home Triple Jump Title At Iowa State Open

AMES, IOWA - Sophomore Dan Karys (Bartlett, Ill.) jumped 46 feet 11 inches to take home the triple jump crown at the Iowa State Open on Saturday (Jan. 22).

The win for Karys marked the second time this season he was won the triple jump at an Iowa State meet. Karys won the event at the Iowa State Holiday preview with a leap of 46 feet 4.75 inches on Dec. 10.

Sophomore Tim Cornish (Wellington, New Zealand) and freshman Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the seeded 3,000-meter race. Cornish had a time of 8:33:36, while Austin was clocked in 8:34.52.

Freshman Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa) ran a time of 50.56 in the 400-meter dash to finish 13th.

Freshman Doug Brady (Englewood, Colo.) registered a 14th-place finish in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:57.45.

The Bulldogs look ahead to two meets next weekend. Drake will send participants to both the Jack Jennett Invitational in Cedar Falls, Iowa and the Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence, Kan. Both meets will be held next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 28-29).
