Several Iowa high school athletes set personal records and school marks at the Iowa HS Track & Field Championships on May 21.
Henry Reiling (Lisbon) threw 172-9 in the discus, improving from his previous best of 154-5. The mark broke the school record and placed eighth among 91 competitors, ranking him 16th in the state. Reiling also set a personal record in the shot put, improving from 49-3 to 49-4.25.
Piper Smith (AGWSR) ran 2:15.92 in the 800 meters, breaking her previous personal record of 2:24.35 set in May 2026. The time established a school record and placed 25th out of 96 runners, moving her to 31st in the state rankings. Smith also recorded a personal best in the 400 meters, clocking 59.35 after entering with a best of 1:00.04.
Elizabeth Erickson (Colo-Nesco) ran 10:15.20 in the 3000 meters, improving from 10:48.02. The junior's time set a school record and finished 25th among 95 competitors, ranking her 29th in the state and 11th among juniors. Erickson also set personal records in the 1500 meters (4:49.60, previous 4:54.95) and 800 meters (2:16.66, previous 2:21.40).
Elijah Lillie (Iowa Valley) threw 167-0 in the discus, bettering his previous mark of 151-0 from May 2026. The junior's throw broke the school record and placed 14th out of 91 throwers, ranking him 30th in the state and sixth among juniors.
Ben McCuddin (Interstate 35) cleared 6-8 in the high jump, improving from 6-4. The mark set a school record and won the event among 81 competitors, placing him sixth in the state rankings.
Alexis Mujica (Newman Catholic) ran 10:12.51 in the 3000 meters, improving from 10:37.45 set in May 2026. The freshman's time established a school record and placed 22nd among 95 runners, ranking her 26th in the state and third among freshmen. Mujica also set personal records in the 1500 meters (4:50.14, previous 4:59.29) and 800 meters (2:19.95, previous 2:23.40).
Wendy Veit (East Sac County) ran 58.30 in the 400 meters, improving from 1:00.21 set in May 2026. The sophomore's time broke the school record and placed 25th out of 95 runners, ranking her 34th in the state and eighth among sophomores. Veit also recorded a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles, running 1:03.32 after entering with a best of 1:04.10.
