Friday Highlights From USATF Junior Nationals

Jr. Women 5000m Final

Rachael Reddy (University of Texas) 16:28.04

Recap: High school distance runners Erin Dietz from Massachussetts and Audrey Belf from Michigan mixed it up with collegiate freshmen Rachael Reddy of the University of Texas and Caroline Caroline Alcorta the University of North Carolina in the junior women's 5K race late in the race. However, Reddy and Alcorta were able to pull away in the finals laps to take the two spots for the Pam Games team with Reddy as the 2015 US junior champ in 16:28 and Alcorta as the runner-up in 16:31.

Dietz had an impressive close to her outdoor season as the Massachusetts state 3200 runner-up from Bedford High School ran two outstanding 5K races on the track in back to back weekends. Last weekend, Dietz finished runner-up in the New Balance Nationals Outdoor 5K to only Ryen Frazier with a 16:38 5K PR performance. She came back this weekend despite the hot conditions in Eugene to run another PR of 16:36 for third place.

Meanwhile, Audrey Belf won last year's USATF Junior Nationals 5K title but didn't have the qualifier time to make the World Junior team. This year, Belf had already achieved the qualifier time (16:29 earlier this spring competing unattached in a college meet), but didn't have the top two finish needed to make the U.S. team for the Pan Am Games with her fourth place finish of 16:43 by the future Georgetown Hoya.
