The Scoop: Jamal Walton To Run Worlds And The Unofficial Start of Cross Country

Fast Times Dropped At Detweiller at Dark

Cross country got off to an unofficial start on Friday at the Detweiller at Dark race at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois. Some of the nation's top returning cross country runners participated in the race this weekend, which raises money for the JDRF Diabetes Foundation.

In the guy's race, Gabe Fendel from Hamilton Southeastern High School in Indiana took home the victory running 14:30.00 for the three-mile course, while just behind him running 14:31.00 was York High School's Charlie Kern. Kern's teammate Sean Macgregor placed third running 14:55.00.

Fendel finished 28th at last years Nike Cross Nationals and 12th at Foot Locker Nationals. Kern is another top running athlete for Illinois. The Midwest placed fourth at last year's IHSA Cross Country State Championship

On the girl's side, Abigail Lynch from Dekalb High School (Indiana) took home the victory running 17:17.00.
