MEETS > RESULTS > STATISTICS/RANKINGS
IOWATFXC.COM (aka IA.MILESPLIT.US) helps identify meets and gives you the results.
But the results in what form? If you’re getting them incomplete, typed out, or in spreadsheets, you (i.e., the meet management, and we at IOWATFXC.COM) can do better.
Go to the Coverage tab > Meet Results > Outdoor Track & Field > 2011 > 4/8 Dave Sage Relays > Complete Results ( or direclty to http://ia.milesplit.com/meets/77479/results/153429) to see an example of quality formatted results, in this case produced by Hy-Tek software. Similarly formatted results are produced by MileSplit’s free RaceTab.
To produce results in Raceberry or Hy-Tek format, either hire someone to time and/or generate results for your meet, or purchase & use the software (Raceberry at http://www.raceberryjam.com ; Hy-Tek at http://www.hy-tekltd.com ). For Racetab, within IOWATFXC.COM, go to the Site Guide tab > How-to Guides for IOWATFXC.COM > Preparing Meet Results with RaceTab.
Results received in other formats [e.g., Aspimeetz.com, Athletic.net; spreadsheets, PDF's (but not scanned-in photo), Word documents, & databases) can be uploaded to IOWATFXC.COM, but are difficult and too time consuming to convert to individual athlete performance data and statistics/rankings. Scanned photos of printed results (e.g., scanned-in to PDF's) can not be uploaded to IOWATFXC.COM.
And then what do you do with the results? File them away never to be seen/used again? Compile them by hand into school records, season bests, etc.? Or let IOWATFXC.COM reduce them to individual athlete performance data, enter those into a giant state (and in fact, national) database, and automatically generate & display meet, athlete, team, conference, division, state, and national statistics/rankings.
For meet statistics, go to the Resources tab > Meet Calendar > (meet). For team statistics, click on the team under Teams Attending. That will take you to the respective Team page, and to participating Athlete's page if selected, each including results from the meet. For athlete statistics in the meet, under Meet History select the desired Meet Record; which will produce the meet record for the event. Click on the event to see all performances under that record. Select other options to see other meet statistics. Click on an included athlete and you'll go to that athlete's webpage with the meet result included.
For athlete "rankings" within a conference, division, state, or the nation, go to the Stats tab > select from the season (XC, Indoor, Outdoor) rankings > and then specify which Gender, Season (XC, indoor, outdoor), Level (HS, MS, University, All), Year ('11, '10, ...), Locale (IA, USA, other), Grade Level (All, Sr, Jr, ...), etc.
For XC team "rankings" within a conference, division, state, or the national, go to the Stats tab > select the season team rankings. Automatically produced will the State rankings based on the best individual performances of each athlete in each respective event. For conference, county, etc. rankings, go to Advanced Parameters.
As you explore meet results and statistics, you will find incomplete and probably inaccurate information. Please remember, IA.MILESPLIT.US has had its own webmaster only since July 2010. All statistics and rankings prior to that are based on results from a very limited number of meets. And we're still having problems receiving results from numerous meets, and in a format that can be converted to statistics/rankings. Imagine what your meet, athlete, team, conference, and state statistics will look like when we get and enter readable results from all meets, and then from multiple seasons.
Thanks to all for your contribution to this effort. Please email comments to lknudson@milesplit.us .
