Stimmel Vaults 13-5, Chongwain Commits To Indian Hills

Despite it being a relatively slow period meet-wise of late, with many of the state's athletes enjoying an off-season break, a few major Ohio-based track and field developments took place in recent days.

Margaretta's Kenna Stimmel traveled over to the Wolverine State and captured the Elite High School pole vault win at the Grand Haven Beach Vault with an ultra-impressive 13-5 effort. Stimmel's clearance represents a new U.S. freshman record, according to the MileSplit database. Stimmel, who took the Division 3 State Championship victory last month, trails only Riley Hunt (13-7) in Ohio's overall rankings

On the college commitments front, one of the state's top sprint talents has confirmed his decision. Belmont (Dayton) graduate, Herman Chongwain will make his way to Iowa and compete for the Indian Hills Community College program.

Chongwain was a regular at State Championship meets during his senior campaign. He placed seventh in the 60 finals (7.04) at the OATCCC Indoor Meet and eighth in the 200 finals (22.52) at the OHSAA Outdoor Meet. Both performances came against Division 1 based competition. Chongwain was the District Bellbrook champion in the 100 with a personal best clocking of 10.72.
