Topham Shines!!
Griswold sophomore Rebekah Topham was the only Iowa athlete invited to participate in the Brooks PR Invitational Indoor, Dempsey Indoor Stadium, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington on February 24. And she represented herself, Griswold, and Iowa very well.
Competing in an invitation only field of the top U.S. high school track & field athletes in each event, Rebekah finished 4th of 12 in the mile, time – 4:48.66. Her time is believed to be the fastest indoor mile ever run by an Iowa HS girl (previous best by Topham, 4:55.99, Arkansas HS Indoor, 1/8/13), and is only 5 seconds slower than the all-time best outdoor mile run by Sioux City East’s Shelby Houlihan in 2011.
