SOLON, Iowa - The home team wrapped up a team title in style Tuesday night here at Spartan Stadium. The Solon girls 4x400 team won the event in a meet record and Class 3A state-best time of 4:01.79.
The Spartans scored 163 points to easily outdistance second-place Davenport Assumption (98) for the Denny Gruber Relays championship. Mount Vernon (81) rounded out the Top 3.
Mount Vernon scored 133 points in winning the boys side. Marion (114) and Solon (110) were next.
The Mount Vernon 4x800 relay team won in 8:19.48, the fifth-fastest time in 3A this season. The Mustangs also took home gold in the 4x400 and distance medley.
Assumption sprinter Carly King, who's headed to Duke to run track, won the 100 (12.61), and anchored victories in the 4x100 and 4x200.
