Waukee Girls, Prairie Boys Victorious

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Mother Nature proved kind for the runners at Saturday's Cedar Rapids Prairie Invitational. A meet that's been known to beat down athletes with heat and humidity turned out cool and dry.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy's Jacob Green and Marie Hostetler of Mid-Prairie took advantage of the conditions, racing to victory in their respective competitions. Green won the boys race in 16:10, while Hostetler led the ladies in 18:21. Both times easily bested last year's results.

Waukee took the girls team title with 69 points to easily outdistance second-place Mid-Prairie (91). Linn-Mar (97) finished third.

Host Cedar Rapids Prairie emerged victorious on the boys side with 58. Cedar Falls (69) grabbed second place, while Iowa City West (140) took third.
