Ames senior Camille Jackson had herself quite a race to kick off the Dickinson Relays on Monday. The Iowa 4A state cross country champion this past fall who is committed to the University of Colorado, won the first event of the day in the girls 3000 meter run with a new school record and state leading time of 10:06.22.
The indoor performance bested her outdoor PR by 8 seconds as she set a torrid pace for 15 places around the track at the University of Northern Iowa Dome in Cedar Falls.
Jackson had a sensational cross country season in the fall going undefeated in Iowa en route to her first state title before just missing out on a Foot Locker Nationals berth at the Midwest Regional qualifier in Wisconsin with an 11th place showing (top 10 go to nationals).
It appears that she has kept up her fitness and training over the winter to throw down such an outstanding 3,000 meter time at the Dickinson Relays as only Stephanie Jenks of Linn-Marr at the 2014 Dickinson Relays (9:58) has run faster over the meet's history for the last 10 years than Jackson's effort yesterday.
The performance would convert to 10:50 for 3200 meters and 10:54 for full two miles.
