SOLON, Iowa - The Solon boys cross country team raced to victory Monday in their own Invitational at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area Course. Bettendorf took top honors on the girls side.
The Spartans topped the field with 52 points to outdistance Bettendorf (59) and Mount Vernon-Lisbon (64). Tipton (74) finished fourth in the boys race.
Tipton's Caleb Shumaker won individuals honors by crossing the finish line in 16:29. Bettendorf's Nick Moore (17:01) and Chase Wakefield (17:06), Solon's Gabe Hinman (17:12), Mount Vernon-Lison's Zach Fall (17:16.2), Solon's Tyler Bilskie (17:16.8) and Tipton's Cody Bohlman (17:30) rounded out the Top 7.
Bettendorf netted 52 points in edging second-place Solon (53) in the girls race. Williamsburg (64) and Mount Vernon-Lisbon (99) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Hannah Bientema of Bettendorf crossed the finish line first in a time of 19:28. Solon's Kiersten Conway (17:55) was next followed by Bettendorf's Emily See (20:08). Williamsburg's Ruth Jennings (20:10.3), Bettendorf's Sami Foht (20:10.6), Davenport North's Kayla Overton (20:40) and Mount Vernon-Lisbon's Laura Swart (20:43) completed the Top 7.
