Field Events - Top Performers

Greyson Hartman, Washington - The state's top thrower enters his 3rd state championship ranked IA #1 (US #11) in the shot put thanks to his 67-3.5 he threw back in March. In four shot put competitions this season, Hartman is undefeated, including a statement win at the Drake Relays. The stage is set for the junior to capture his first state championship next week.

Ajak Malual, Waukee - He has occupied the state's top spot in the high jump for much of the season, having cleared 6-11.75. The sophomore is undefeated in 9 contests this season, which features a win at the Drake Relays and 4A Waukee NW State Qualifying Meet. After finishing 5th as a freshman, Malual will have the opportunity to begin what could become a three-year streak of winning the state title later this week.

Delilah Subsin, Ottumwa - It was a good year for the throwing events in the Hawkeye State and Subsin was one of the discipline's brightest stars. The state leader in the discus, she has won seven times this spring and features a win at the Drake Relays. The senior is ranked second in the shot put and could be in store for a career day later this week in Des Moines.

Distance Events - Top Performers

Canaan Dunham, Pella - Distance running doesn't get much better than it does in the Hawkeye State and Dunham has been one of the state's brightest stars. Entering his final state meet, he owns the state's fastest time in the 1,600m (4:05) and third fastest time in the 3,200m (9:01). After finishing on the podium in all three distance races last spring, the senior aspires to finish at the top this year.

Quentin Nauman, Western Dubuque - In eight races this outdoor season, Nauman is undefeated, which includes two wins at the Drake Relays in the one-mile and 3,200m. He is the state leader in the 8-lap race, having run 8:57, and most recently qualified to state in all three distance races. After a record-breaking postseason in 2025, the senior will look to replicate that again this spring, starting at this week's state meet.

Makenna Madetzke, Ankeny - The state leader in the 800m has yet to lose in the event this year, running 2:09 at the Drake Relays en route to a massive win. Madetzke qualified to state in the 800m and 1,500m and will be hoping to end her high school career on a high note.

Lili Denton, St. Albert - Another one of the state's fastest is expected to compete in the 800m, 1,500m, and 3,000m at this week's championships in Des Moines. Denton is the state leader in the 1,500m, having run 4:25 en route to a signature win at the Drake Relays in April, and will be looking to finish her career with a second straight state title.
