“Projected Top 2012 Iowa High School Track & Field Athletes” Interview – Allison Gregg, junior, Cedar Falls High School

1. When & how did you get started in track & field?  I started track and field in junior high and continued running in high school.  I immediately knew I had a passion for long distance running when I started in 7th grade.

2. Person/people most influential to your success in track & field?  The person who is the most influential to my success in running is by far my coach, Don Williams.  His passion for running is radiant and contagious.  He knows when and how to push me to my limits.  I trust him 100% and know I can always talk to him about what is on my mind.

3. Your favorite track & field event(s)?  3000m

4. Your track & field event coach(es)?  Don Williams and Erica Breddin

5. Keys to your successful track & field training program?  Lots of hardwork during the offseason.  I put in lots of miles during the off season along with a series of core strengthening exercises.  When track does begin, my coach is ready with a schedule that is challenging and aggressive, to get my team and I where we need to be.

6. Your favorite track & field meet?  Drake Relays.

7. Track & field athlete(s) you most enjoy competing against?  Carolyn Newhouse (Linn Mar)!  She is an awesome athlete to run against.  We often offer words of encouragement to each other before the race, and even sometimes during if we are close to each other.  I wish her the best of luck this year.  I also enjoy running against Anna Holdiman (Waverly), knowing how hard she works and how faith driven she is.

8. Your greatest experience in track & field so far?  My greatest experience so far has been the 2011 State 3000m.  I felt relaxed during the race, which is something that is not easy to do during a race.

9. Goals for the 2012 track & field season?   My goals are to qualify for Drake and State in the 3000m and 1500m.  I also am cheering for our Distance Medley and 4x800 to make strong appearances at those meets.

10. Long-term goals in track & field?  My long term goals are to remain healthy and injury free throughout track.  I hope to set some new PR's and have fun on the track.
