“Projected Top 2012 Iowa High School Track & Field Athletes” Interview –
Mahnee Watts, junior, Bettendorf High School

1. When & how did you get started in track & field?  When I was in third grade my grandpa signed me up for  MVTC (Mississippi Valley Track Club) and I have been running track ever since.

2. Person/people most influential to your success in track & field?  My Grandpa Jim Watts, my mom Kim Roberts, and my coach Mrs. Flynn.

3. Your favorite track & field event(s)?   400, 800, 4by4, 4by8, sprint med, and distance med.  

4. Your track & field event coach(es)?  Mrs. Flynn, Ms. Reece and Mr. Kinzer

5. Keys to your successful track & field training program?  (response by Coach Flynn -  “It is striking the right balance between speed work and a distance base needed for success at the 400/800.  Mahnee thrives on 300s during track season.”)

6. Your favorite track & field meet?  Jessie Day Relays

7. Track & field athlete(s) you most enjoy competing against?  (did not respond)

8. Your greatest experience in track & field so far?  Running at Nationals for AAU track , running at the Drake Relays, and at State. Also getting second at State in the 800.

9. Goals for the 2012 track & field season?   Have a PR in 400 and the 800

10. Long-term goals in track & field?   To break the school record for the 400 and the 800 and win State
