Teams Competing - Waukee, Valley, Roosevelt, IC High, Urbandale, Ames, Ankeny, Indianola, Johnston, Marshalltown, East, North, Boone, Norwalk
Several teams with the talent and depth to compete for a 4A State Championship in May will compete in an early season meet at Waukee on April 3rd. Defending state champion IC High, state runner up Roosevelt , and 4th place WDM Valley will highlight a strong field that also includes a defending regional champion in Waukee and a very talented Urbandale squad.
Events to watch will include the 4x800, where defending state champ Valley (all 4 runners return) will run against returning place winners IC HIgh, Urbandale, and Johnston. All 4 runners also return for the Waukee Shuttle Hurdle relay team, a group that set the Iowa All Time best last spring. They will battle Drake Relays champion Urbandale, state runner up Ames and state finalist Valley. Also in the hurdles, a talented field will compete in the 100 hurdles including four finalist from the 4A State meet. Destini Welch of Roosevelt, Maddi Rouw of Waukee, Mary Young of Urbandale and Kellie Wong of Ankeny are all expected to run. In addition, the Roosevelt sprint relays, led by 100 and 200 meter champion Erin Hawkins, will have a chance to post impressive early season times on the purple oval at Waukee.
