Jenks at Nationals
Linn-Mar (Marion) high school freshman Stephanie Jenks placed third in the mile and seventh in the two mile at the New Balance High School National Championships, North Carolina A&T University, Greensboro, North Carolina on June 14-16.
Competing in the championship divisions of each, she was 3rd of 27 in the mile, time – 4:50.72; which is equivalent to a 4:49.03 1600m and 4:29.26 1500m (compared to her winning 4:35.22 1500m at Drake, and 4:31.14 at State). In the championship 2 Mile, she was 7th of 26, time 10:24.30; equivalent to 10:20.68 3200m and 9:38.23 3000m (compared to her winning 9:46.02 3000m at Drake, and 9:50.70 at State).
Stephanie was the only Iowa athlete competing in an individual event at these nationals. An Iowa City West boys team finished 14th of 17 (7:56.43) in the championship division of the 4X800m relay.
