City High Girls, Pleasant Valley Boys Grab Team Titles

IOWA CITY, Iowa - It was a story of opposite ends of the spectrum racing to victory Thursday in the Bud Williams Invitational here at the Ashton Cross Country Course.

Iowa City High freshman Rowan Boulter won her first-ever varsity race in 19:31. On the boys side, Iowa City West senior Kolby Greiner enjoyed another win during his successful career, winning in 16:03.

The City girls won the team title with 29 points, easily outdistancing Bettendorf (58) and Ottumwa (106). Pleasant Valley captured the boys race with 21. West (46) was second and Bettendorf (89) finished third.

Greiner was looking forward to running at the West High Invitational here on Tuesday but it was rained out. The Trojans then joined this meet, giving him another chance to run on his home course.

"I'm just very, very happy with today," he said. "It's a step in the right direction. I've just been really working hard, doing my best in the workouts. I love this course so much."

Boulter experienced her first varsity time trials at Ashton back in August. She was excited to see how much progress she'd made. She shaved 10 seconds off her time.

"I'm happy with the 10 seconds because I've been running a lot slower than that. So it was nice to have a PR," she said.

Ottumwa's Carollin Mellin (19:56) and Alli Bookin-Nosbisch (20:24) finished second and third, respectively.

For the boys, Pleasant Valley's Kent Nichols (16:15) and Max Murphy (16:21) finished second and third, respectively.
