TIPTON, Iowa - The Solon High girls and boys cross country teams raced to victory Tuesday afternoon here at the Tipton Invitational. The runners battled cool temperatures and wet conditions.
Solon senior Kiersten Conway won the girls race in 19:32 to outdistance second-place Annalee Bartles (19:36) of Iowa City Regina. Cascade's Emma Ostwinkle (19:49) captured third place, while Kallie Wallick (20:05) of Tipton finished fourth.
The Spartans' 29 points bested second-place Tipton's 50. Regina took third with 84.
The boys race ended in dramatic fashion when Bellevue's Brady Griebel (15:32.8) edging Caleb Shumaker (15:33.0) of Tipton at the tape. Calamus-Wheatland's Chase Knoche (16:01) and Dylan Darsidan (16:18) of Camanche finished third and fourth, respectively.
Solon's Tyler Bilskie (16:45) and Gabe Hinman (16:53) crossed the line sixth and seventh, respectively, to lead the Spartans to a meet-best 54 points. Tipton was next with 60 and Bellevue (122) came in a distant third.
