CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Iowa high school athletes hadn't competed in a sanctioned track meet in the state since 2019. That COVID-19-related shutdown ended on Monday when the girls hit the oval for the Dickinson Relays here at Northern Iowa's UNI-Dome.
Carlisle's Ainsley Erzen showed little rust in racing to victory in the 1500 meters. Her time of 4:46:74 came in under the Blue Standard 4:47 mark automatically qualifying athletes for the Drake Relays on April 22 in Des Moines.
Ankeny's Lauren McMahon bested the Blue Standard in winning the 3000. Her time of 10:16:10 easily fell under the 10:30 required for automatic qualifying at Drake.
Keokuk's Miracle Ailes won the high jump with a leap of 5-5, the Blue Standard height. Humbolt's Kendal Clark captured the shot put title with a toss of 42-01, an inch above Drake qualifying distance.
