Athlete Spotlight: Jojo Frost of CPU Signs with University of Iowa

JoJo Frost of Center Point - Urbana High Schools recently announced his commitment to compete and study at the University of Iowa. Read below for a Q&A with Jo to learn more about his track and field history and his decision to compete for the Hawkeyes.

How did you get involved in track & field and what role it has played in your life?

I got in involved in track in middle school. [I] never really wanted to participate in sport[s] when I was younger, [I] got involved because all of my friends were doing it. After a while I began to fall in love with the sport. It actually brings out the best in me. Track has played a huge role in my life - I've found something I love to do and want to continue doing it for a long time.

What track accomplishment are you most proud of?

The track accomplishment that I am most proud of is definitely winning my first individual championships as a high school athlete.

How do you mentally prepare for races?

I grew up in church with a strong spiritual value, all of my family basically were raised to pray and thank God for all the accomplishments we hve been granted. I always say a prayer before I run. The same prayer every time.

What are you hoping to achieve for the remainder of your high school career?

I hope to have a healthy and successful season. Hopefully make it back to the blue oval two more times. I've actually never won a flag at Drake relays, so I'm going to make that one of my short / long [term] goals.

What schools were you deciding between? How did you end up picking Iowa?

I had a few other schools besides Iowa looking at me. UNI was the other option. They have a really good program also. However, I ended up choosing Iowa because I felt like going there would give me the best opportunity to grow as an athlete at the collegiate level.

How have your family and friends reacted to your commitment to Iowa?
My family was very excited. My whole family are big hawk fans and knowing that I had the chance to go to [the] University of Iowa thrilled them. When we finally made the decision, everyone showed love, my mom especially- she cried as we got off the phone with Iowa about the commitment.

What goals do you have for your collegiate career as a Hawkeye?

I'm excited about this new endeavor. I know this is going to be a great experience becoming a Hawkeye. I'm ready to contribute to the team as much as I can as well as being a great teammate.

What are you most looking forward to about college?

I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life, not just in running but being around new people and [creating] some great memories.
