Matt Frazier of Dowling Catholic High School has signed to become a member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The senior will follow in former Maroons' footsteps, Ryan Schweizer, as he joins the Notre Dame Cross Country and Track & Field teams. At the 2016 Iowa State High School XC Championships, Fraizer's individual 9th place finish helped the Maroons take the win by just 2 points, with a score of 100.
Read below for an interview with Matt about his decision to sign with Notre Dame.
What was it like winning state as a team this year?
Winning state as a team this year was a great experience, it
was a really close state meet and we were kind of surprised we won. It was
awesome winning with the guys.

What schools were you considering for your collegiate
career?
The three schools I took visits to were Georgetown, Iowa, and then Notre Dame.
Those were kind of the three I had it narrowed down to.
Why did you pick Notre Dame out of those three?
Um, Notre Dame, I picked it for a lot of reasons. One was that I have some strong
family ties there, my parents went there, and then Ryan (Schweizer) was there
from last year which was really cool, and then it just had a great academic fit
for me.
What are you hoping to accomplish in this upcoming track
season for your final season of high school?
This season in track I'm going to try and lower my two PR's in the 800 and the
mile. Maybe go for the school record in the mile which would be a really cool
achievement, and then see where I can place at state.
What are you hoping to accomplish as part of the Fighting
Irish?
As a collegiate runner, I think... well I'm not really sure that I'm pinpointed
on a goal yet, just keep getting faster and see where I line up on a nationwide
scale.
