Carly Rahn of Gilbert High School will be joining the Augustana Vikings this fall. Read below for an interview with Carly about her choice to compete collegiately and more!
What made you interested in becoming a middle-distance runner?
Since middle school track I've always enjoyed running middle-distance events and training for races that required a combination of speed and endurance.
What has your experience running for Gilbert High School been like?
Running for Gilbert High School has been a very positive experience over the past four years. I've been able to run on winning state teams in both cross country and track, which are once in life time moments that I will never forget. Also, I have made lifelong friendships with a few of my teammates.
What are you hoping to accomplish this spring in your last high school track season?
I'm hoping for my last high school track season that I can break my school's record in the 800 meter race and continue to improve my running times from prior years.
What are you most looking forward to about running in college?
I am most looking forward to seeing the potential I can have as a collegiate runner with more dedication and intense training.
How did you pick Augustana? Were you considering other schools?
I was considering multiple different schools, but Augustana University's emphasis on a quality education and the importance of a strong team environment attracted me the most.
What are your goals for your collegiate running career?
My goals for running collegiality include working hard everyday at practice and seeing how that hard work will pay off.
What advice do you have for other athletes who are interested in becoming a Viking?
My advice for other athletes interested in becoming a Viking is to consider what you're looking for in a running program and if it's a growing as a person, teammate, and runner, then Augustana University would be a great option.
