The Ankeny Centennial Invitational proved to be a
competitive race this year, led by the McKee sisters who swept the 9-10 and
11-12 races. Jessica won the 11-12 race with a time of 19:18, followed by Ankeny's
Alex Robran in 19:35. Dowling's upperclassmen stole the show, winning the 11-12
team race by finishing in places 3, 5, 8, 10, and 12 vs Johnston's 1, 7, 9, 13,
and 20. Junior Kate Timboe led the Maroons with a 19:41, only 6 seconds off of
her 5K PR, which she ran at Nike Cross Regionals last fall.
Brooke Mckee won the 9-10 race with a time of 20:22 after recovering from a stress fracture this past spring. As predicted, the Johnston underclassmen put on a great race, finishing 1, 4, 5, 11, and 14 to take the team win, followed by Ankeny Centennial with just 9 more points than Johnston with a team score of 43. 3A school Pella also held their own against some strong 4A schools, finishing 3rd in the 9-10 race with a team score of 93.
When comparing the 9-10 and 11-12 times, Johnston would have been the winner with a team score of 41 points (1, 7, 8, 11, 14), followed by Dowling Catholic with a team score of 47 (3, 5, 9, 13, 17), with Ankeny Centennial rounding out the top 3 with a team score of 78 (9, 12, 15, 19, 23). Check out how the top 50 overall would have finished below...
