BETTENDORF, Iowa - On a cool, rainy afternoon here at Crow Creek Park, the Cedar Rapids Prairie boys and Pleasant Valley girls teams heated up the course. Those schools emerged victories in this Class 4A State Qualifying meet.
The Prairie Hawks used three Top 5 finishers to go low with 35 points. Iowa City Liberty High (51) edged Pleasant Valley (52) for second place.
The PV girls squad posted a winning score of 54 to edge runner-up Cedar Rapids Prairie (57). Bettendorf (68) came in third.
Pleasant Valley's Kole Sommer won the boys competition with a time of 16:07. Prairie's Andrew Bickford (16:22) was next across the finish line followed by PV's Tarun Vedula (16:35). Prairie's Hunter Kalous (16:36) and Anthony Lee (16:37) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Liberty's Ashlyn Keeney grabbed gold in the girls competition with a time of (19:00). Bettendorf's Hannah Beintema (19:16) crossed the finish line in second place with PV's Bella D'Antico (19:26) behind her. Prairie's Keirra Hess (19:36) and Liberty's Camille Mac (19:37) rounded out the Top 5.
