DES MOINES, Iowa - Ashlyn Keeney made the most of her first time on the blue oval. The Iowa City Liberty freshman dominated a stocked field in the 3000 at Thursday's Drake Relays.
She completed the race in 9:39.64, the fastest time every posted by an Iowa freshman and the eighth fastest number ever for a freshman countrywide. It's the fourth-best time in the state's history.

Other high school winners at Drake on Thursday included Ankeny's Tim Sindt (3200), Council Bluffs Lincoln's Darby Thomas (long jump), Noah Fenske of New Hampton (shot put), Tipton's Jamie Kofron (discus) and Grant Brouwer of Sibley-Ocheyedan (high jump).
