Athlete Spotlight: Ashley Stogdill Signs with Inaugural RedTails

Ashley Stogdill of Maquoketa Valley High School has signed her LOI to join the inaugural RedTails track team at Hawkeye Community College. Continue below to see how she made the decision, what her hopes are, and more!

What is your favorite track event to compete in?
My favorite track event to compete in is the 4x1. It's a quick race that takes a lot of energy.

What made you interested in competing in track & field?
I
love running and working out. With track I get to do both of those things everyday. It's such a tough sport, but it's always rewarding if you put in the time and effort. Track helps you build confidence within yourself and that itself is very rewarding.

What is your proudest moment from your high school athletic career?
My proudest moment so far is competing at state. It makes all the hard work pay off and it's something I will remember in years to come. The state meet is a lot of fun and there are so many great athletes there.

What colleges were you considering and how did you make the decision?
I wasn't sure where I wanted to go next year for college. I went on a visit at Hawkeye and I loved the small campus and atmosphere. It just felt like home, so I knew it was the right fit for me. The coaches at Hawkeye also weighed a lot into my decision. They are very helpful and I look forward to working with them next year.

What was it like signing a letter of intent?
Signing my letter of intent was a major step for me. I have always liked competing and I wanted to continue that. I was excited to make it official and be fully committed. I had a lot of support from my family, teammates and coaches that day. It makes it a lot easier knowing you have people there supporting your decision.

What are your goals for your final high school outdoor track season?
My goal is to return to state and compete in a few events. However, my main goal this year is to compete at state in the 4x1. It's my favorite race and I would love to take that to state.

What events do you plan to focus on in college?
I plan on focusing on 100's and 200's next year in college. I hope to participate in the 4x1 and 4x2 for sure.

What do you hope to accomplish during your collegiate athletic career?
I hope to better myself as an athlete. I have great coaches that will help me set goals and reach them. I want to be very competitive and be successful individually and as a team.
