IOWA CITY, Iowa - Ashlyn Keeney suffered through a serious eye infection early in the season. Recently, the Iowa City Liberty sophomore caught a nasty chest cold.
Those ailments had about as much luck as her competition in slowing her down.
Keeney (18:06) topped a tough field Thursday here at the University of Iowa's Ashton Cross Country Course in racing to another victory at the Bud Williams Invitational. Dubuque Senior's Claire Edmondson (18:24) and Lillian Schmidt (18:41) finished second and third, respectively.
Senior claimed the team title with 37 points, easily outdistancing second-place and host, Iowa City High (68). Liberty (82) took third.
Ottumwa's Alli Bookin-Nosbisch (18:49) came in fourth, while Senior's Izzy Gorton (19:04), Liberty's Camille Mac (19:06) and City's Rowan Boulter (19:16) rounded out the girls' Top 7.
Senior Max Murphy (15:43) took gold on the boys side, helping Pleasant Valley win the team title with 39 points. Clear Creek Amana (53) grabbed second behind a second-place finish from Brandon Barker (16:33), while Liberty ended up third (71).
Pekin's Brady Millikin (16:40.4) and Liberty's Jack Kinzer (16:40.6) finished third and fourth, respectively. Pekin's Colten Glosser (16:43.4), Liberty's Bowen Gryp (16:43.9) and Pleasant Valley's Tarun Vedula (16:44) completed the Top 7.
