MONTICELLO, Iowa - Bellevue's Brady Griebel pulled away from Tipton's Caleb Shumaker late in Tuesday's River Valley Conference Championship race here at Monticello High to claim a league title. Mid-Prairie freshman Danielle Hostetler cruised to a win on the girls side.
Mid-Prairie (24), Tipton (74) and Monticello (76) were the top three girls teams. Monticello (55), Tipton (61) and Mid-Prairie (89) represented the top three for the boys.
Griebel and Shumaker ran together throughout much of the course before the former kicked it in with a winning time of 15:48 while the latter grabbed second in 15:53. Mid-Prairie's Jamison Stutzman was next in 16:34 with Camanche's Dylan Darsidan (16:38) and Bellevue's Payton Griebel (16:45) following him.
Hostetler led wire to wire and ran the course by herself after the initial pack broke up. Her 18:44 was well ahead her teammates Sydney Yoder (19:22.6) and Jaden Yoder (19:229), who finished second and third, respectively. Regina's Annalee Bartles (19:26) and Mid-Prairie's Mitzi Evans (19:40) rounded out the Top 5.
