“Projected Top 2012 Iowa HS T&F Athletes” Interview –
Madison Waymire, sophomore, Dallas Center-Grimes HS

1.  When & how did you get started in track & field?  I have loved the sport of track and field ever since I was a little girl. My dad took me to my cousin’s state track meet and I remember just falling in love with the sport.  I first actually started competing the summer of my 6th grade year and loved it!

2.  Person/people most influential to your success in track & field?  My dad is the most influential to me.  He always knows what I am going through and what to do about it. It is nice having someone that you can learn from and to be able to trust with your training plan. My mom may not have been a runner but she also influences me and is always there when I just need to relax before a race and just smile and have fun.

 3. Your favorite track & field event(s)?  It’s hard to say that I have a favorite event because I truly love them all. The most fun ones for me to run is the 1500 and 800 but you can’t forget the relays!

 4. Your track & field event coach(es)?  All of my coaches work really hard and work together well to make our team the best it can be.  Mr. Levenhagen works with distance, Mr. Kloster works with field events and sprinters, and Mr. Means works with our weights and our hurdlers. So it is fun being able to work with them all!

 5.  Keys to your successful track & field training program?  I have found that trusting your body and listening to it is the biggest key. The most important though is not to put so much stress on yourself, run for you, and have fun; but remember the people who helped get you there because the support of others is always helpful.

 6. Your favorite track & field meet?  My favorite track meet is the Drake relays! The atmosphere is so great and there is so much history! You can’t beat the feeling of flying around that track!

 7.  Track & field athlete(s) you most enjoy competing against?  Karissa Schweizer is a really good friend of mine and I love competing with her! We talk occasionally in off-season, but once it gets time to compete we are very competitive.

 8.  Your greatest experience in track & field so far?  My greatest experience I would have to say would be my 1500 at Drake, it was a fun race.  I would also have to say time with my distance medley relay team at state, we always pray in our lane with our baton before we run, so it was fun getting ready to go with them. I will never forget standing on the wet track in lane 6 with them!

9.  Goals for the 2012 track & field season?   My goals this season are to run for me, because I love the sport. I just want to do the best I can, improve, and help my team!

10.    Long-term goals in track & field?  My goals are to turn into the best runner I can be, run in college, and just see where this sport will take me!
